Why BRIDGE II
Economic support alone cannot shift the deep-rooted gender inequalities and household dynamics that shape young people’s livelihood decisions, especially for young women.
Harmful gender norms, unequal decision-making power and limited family support still keep women and girls out of economic activity. Young entrepreneurs also need better access to markets, business support and institutions to grow.
BRIDGE II builds on the achievements and lessons of the YES and BRIDGE I projects to improve the economic resilience, financial inclusion and decision-making power of vulnerable youth, women and their families.
What we are doing
- Gender Model Families: monthly learning sessions, quarterly meetings, refresher training and an annual Gender Model Family Assembly for 28 households.
- Youth livelihoods: skills, start-up equipment and materials, with refresher training in business management, marketing, branding and financial literacy.
- Savings groups: support for 5 Village Savings and Loans Associations, with quarterly community engagement, stakeholder forums and reflection meetings.
- Linkages: connecting young entrepreneurs with the Ghana Enterprises Agency, Business Advisory Centres, the National Youth Authority and other institutions.
- Campaigns: International Women’s Day and youth campaigns, with regular monitoring and learning.
Who BRIDGE II reaches
What we expect to change
For young people
Skills, start-up support and business training to start and sustain businesses, earn more and save regularly.
For families
Women take a bigger part in household money and livelihood decisions, and men take on more childcare and household work.
For savings groups
Five stronger, better managed groups, so members save more and borrow affordably.
